Knot is a dating application for adults (18+). This policy describes what data we collect, how we collect it, and all uses of that data.
1. Data we collect
- Account: email, phone if provided, password or sign-in token, date of birth (to confirm you are 18+).
- Profile: display name, photos, bio, preferences, and other information you choose to publish.
- Matching and chat: likes, passes, matches, and messages you send.
- Safety: reports, blocks, and related notes we need to investigate abuse.
- Location: if you allow it, approximate or precise location to show nearby people. You can refuse; some discovery features may be limited.
- Device and usage: device type, OS, crash logs, coarse diagnostics.
- Purchases: Apple processes payments; we receive subscription status.
2. How we collect it
From you in the app; from your device (including optional location permission); from other users when they report you; from Apple for purchases.
3. How we use it
- To operate dating, matching, and messaging (contract).
- To keep the community safe, including reviewing reports and removing accounts (legitimate interests and, where needed, legal obligation).
- To verify age and keep children off the service (legal obligation / legitimate interests).
- To support you and keep the app working (legitimate interests).
We do not sell personal data. We do not use your photos or messages for third-party advertising. Profile content you publish is visible to other users according to your settings.
4. Sharing
Other users see what you publish. Processors include hosting, push notification, and content-moderation tools if we use them. We may disclose information to competent authorities if required by law or to protect someone’s vital interests. Apple receives what the App Store requires.
5. Retention
Profile and chat data last while the account is active. After deletion we remove or irreversibly anonymise personal data within 30 days, except records we must keep for safety, legal claims, or law (for example a report file). See account deletion.
6. Your rights
UK GDPR rights apply. You may withdraw location permission in iOS Settings. Contact hello@softwareengineertechnology.co.uk or the ICO.
7. Children
Knot is not for anyone under 18. We delete accounts we believe belong to minors.
